Year in Review 2007
2007 was a very busy year. Some of the highlights are included below:
Learning
· The past 4 years have seen significant improvement in school results on the Yr 3,5,7 tests and Year 2 Net.
· State Wide testing for years 3,5,7 students on Tues 22 and Wed 23 August 2006 .
· Big improvement in the number of letters home about self management [Almost 400 self management letters went home]
· Students involved in University of NSW extension tests for Mathematics, Computers, Writing, Spelling, English, Science.
· ‘Bust a Bully’ Program reveals a big drop off in incidents being reported by students \
· HRE program delivered by Sandra Lynne Underhill and Karina Wilbraham.
· Big sporting involvement with Athletics, Rugby League ,Touch ,AFL, Cross Country Running and swimming for District ,Regional and State Teams. Girls AFL team competed successfully at the GABBA. Cooroy team of Boys participated in the Qld Primary All Schools Touch Carnival in Brisbane on Sat 10 and Sun 11 November. Made the Plate Final.
· Music camps for advanced and beginner students.
· School entered for the Premier’s Reading Challenge
· Yr 7 undertook a Vocational Expo day at Nambour TAFE . Looking at possible trade careers
· Bike Skills Program run by Noosa Shire Council
· Bus it Safe program conducted by Noosa Shire Council Travelsmart and Caboolture Bus Lines. (a highly successful 50 minute school-based session on safe bus travel tailored for primary aged students.)
· Successful implementation of new Prep program in 2007
· “Cooroy Has Talent” talent quest staged for the first time
· All classes attended the Underwater World excursion as part of the prize won at Shop for Sunshine Kids promotion from 2006.
· Report cards modified to reflect required changes to a five-point scale for assessing student learning.
· ‘Seasons for Growth ‘ programs continued for students in Yrs 4-7.
· Life Education (Drug awareness and education) Nov 19-28
· Year 4/5CK presented Remembrance Day Ceremony on Friday 9 Nov.
· Another extremely successful End-of-year Concert on school oval.
Schools
· Selection process for our student leaders involved 47 application,17 interviews conducted .
· Class websites and School web site continually updated. School Annual Report and significant strategic documents were included [over 100 hits per month ]
· School leaders involved with the school’s ANZAC ceremony as well as the district ceremony on ANZAC Day in Cooroy
· Performance stage project successfully funded .Building set for 2007.
· Transitioning process for yr 7 to yr 8 at NDSHS
· Prep Room refurbishment for new Prep class completed.
· Covered walk ways and Junior play ground area projects completed .
· School Community Development Fund [$51,200 for Cooroy ] successful. Building of 10 learning environment improvements completed in 2007
· Placed in top 10 again for Shop for Sunshine Kids promotion. Won computer package, Sunshine Coast Daily 3 month package and LG DVD player.
· Cooroy SS continued to manage Noosa District Primary School Sport Committee in 2007. Will continue to do so in 2008.
· School Website now has an area to log on as an interested person for the Centenary
Workforce
· Training on accessing ESP funding for students in care
· P-3 staff training on the new Early Years Curriculum Guide
· Some 30 staff took part in flu vaccination program in an attempt to lessen absences due to influenza
· Dimensions of Learning inservice for teachers who mentor undergraduates from CQU
· Refocus session for all staff with the school’s Student Management Plan. Training about the “Responsible Behaviour Plan for Students”. Training in the new Behaviour Code for lead staff
· Some staff trained with Smart Boards [blackboard of the future]. Kirsty Walker completed ICT Pedagogical Licence as a school leader in ICT.
· Staff training in the Essential Learnings of the 8 Key Learning Areas. This will be trialed in 2008 and implemented in 2009.
· 26 members of staff did First Aid training /update of qualifications in August.
· Training in non-violent crisis intervention for SEU staff.
· Two retirements Liz Diggles and Norm Young.
· Teacher aides completed 3 days of training to assist students with literacy skills .
· New enrolment procedures have been implemented , with the enrolment agreement
· Two staff trained to implement Support a Talker Program. (Mechelle Macaulay and Meg Barrett).
· Own staff delivered the HRE program for Yrs 5-7. (Family Planning Qld staff for Yr 4 students.
· Prep Teachers inservice continued
· QCARF information and training for staff in readiness for 2008/2009.
· 5 day Literacy Professional Development for Learning Support Teachers (STLD)
