What an exciting and busy time we had in term two. Our topic was Mini Beasts with a particular focus on ants. We discovered lots of fascinating facts about mini beasts of all descriptions and studied in depth the workings of an ant colony.
Perhaps the highlight of the term was the Mini Beasts presentation by Mr and Mrs Marsh. We were able to study first hand a giant bird eating tarantula, a very large stick insect and a huge scorpion. We learned how bees dance to show the way to the honey and we learned how honey is extracted from the honeycomb. Mr Marsh also taught us about the differences between insects and other mini beasts.
As part of the year 2 net assessment we completed some wonderful descriptions of an ant colony.
All children are to be congratulated on the high standard of oral presentations about ‘An Interesting Insect.’ Thank you to all parents who assisted with research and practice at home.
Term three will see all year 2 classes studying Our Environment. We will be learning
· How to identify different environments and our dependence on these.
· How to protect our environment and ways we can help at home through such things as recycling, conserving water and power.
· What will happen if we don’t take care of our environment.
