Web Page for 1B Term 0ne and Two and three
With wonderful help from teacher aides, volunteers, student teachers and parent helpers we are able to make learning much more individual for each student.
We started the year learning about letters and sounds with help from the Hairy Maclary Stories written by Lynley Dodd. With many great helpers in the classroom, the children progressed quickly with their learning. By the end of the term the children were able to write and read about some of the mischievous antics of Hairy Maclary and his friends. To finish the term, the children invited their parents to a series of plays presented with much enthusiasm.
The students worked on a unit of work that was based around jungle animals. They again worked hard on writing with the main focus being to create a description of animals. They continued to develop number concepts and have started to use their number skills to calculate simple sums. We finished the term with a story told in theatre presentation about a Giraffe who couldn’t dance, but finds the courage to learn and succeed.
In Term three, the unit of work is on feathers, fur and fins. We are looking at the books about the ‘Rainbow Fish’ written by Marcus Pfister. The type of writing we are focusing on is narrative style and already some of the children are creating wonderful stories filled with imaginative ideas.
